🧭 About Cecil
Where the Chesapeake Bay Meets the Susquehanna

Cecil County sits in Maryland's northeast corner, where the Chesapeake Bay narrows into the Susquehanna and the historic Chesapeake & Delaware Canal cuts across the peninsula. It's a county of contrasts — the canal-town charm of Chesapeake City, the bluff-top views from Turkey Point Lighthouse at Elk Neck State Park, and a quirky past as the 1930s 'Marriage Capital of the East Coast' — all within easy reach of I-95.

Elkton, the Former 'Marriage Capital of the East Coast'
From roughly 1913 to 1938, Maryland's lack of a waiting period made Elkton the East Coast's quickie-wedding hub, with more than 20 wedding chapels lining Main Street and over 32 marriage licenses issued a day at its 1936 peak. The town still marks National Marriage Day each June 12 — a quirky slice of history paired today with the bluff-top hike to Turkey Point Lighthouse.
